The piece challenges the limitation between stage and audience with the intimate question: What can I offer to you? Different gestures of offering invites the audience into a space that embraces the in-between between the dancer, the audience and specific objects. The work places value on relation and creates a space for the other(s) next to us.

The core of the work is an extensive research at Villa Kujoyama into the Japanese tea ceremony and its human relationships and focus on offering.

Through costume and objects the design of Not I re-imagines the tea ceremony and its ideology through relics. Humble materials shaped and given value by human hand.

A pale blue denim overall carries reminiscent of the worker while nodding to western influence in Japanese culture. Through cut and organization on the body it creates the restrained elegance of the kimono.

Objects includes a knife, onions, wine, a mackerel, a rusted wise, a tablecloth and a wooden plank with bark.
